Structured Data (Schema) for Irish Businesses: The Practical Guide
On this page
Search engines read Irish websites the way a tired intern would: quickly, and with room for error. Structured data removes the error. It is machine-readable markup that declares your facts, from your address and opening hours to your product prices and FAQs, so Google can show rich results and AI engines can cite you accurately. For Irish businesses it is the cheapest visibility upgrade available.
The types that matter for Irish businesses
- Organization. Who you are: name, logo, address, and social profiles. Goes on the homepage.
- LocalBusiness. Your name, address, phone, Eircode, geo coordinates, and opening hours. This feeds local search and our local SEO playbook.
- Product with Offer. What you sell and what it costs. Price, currency (EUR), and availability declared unambiguously, which is exactly the data AI assistants quote when shoppers ask.
- FAQPage. Your questions and answers, which can surface as expandable results and give AI engines direct quotable answers, the pattern we teach in getting cited by AI.
- Article. Blog posts and guides, with headline, author, and dates.
- BreadcrumbList. The trail of links at the top of the page, shown in search results.
How to add it: JSON-LD
JSON-LD is the format to use: a small script block, separate from your visible content, that search engines parse natively. A minimal LocalBusiness example:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "LocalBusiness",
"name": "Your Business",
"address": { "@type": "PostalAddress", "streetAddress": "...", "addressLocality": "Dublin", "postalCode": "D08 X5Y8", "addressCountry": "IE" },
"telephone": "+353 1 000 0000",
"openingHours": "Mo-Fr 09:00-17:00"
}
</script>
Add it to the page head or body, one block per page, and keep it in sync with the visible content on that page. A schema block that contradicts the page is worse than none.
Validating your markup
After adding schema, validate with Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator. Both report errors and warnings. Fix until clean, then recheck whenever you change prices, hours, or content structure.
Irish specifics
- Eircode in your address. Local search and delivery both key off it.
- EUR currency in offers. AI assistants quoting your prices need the currency explicit.
- One source of truth. Your schema, Google Business Profile, and directory listings must agree, the entity consistency rule from getting cited by AI.
How we ship it
Every site we build includes schema by default, and we retrofit it onto existing sites as part of our AI search visibility service. Structured data is the foundation layer for everything else: rich results, local search, and AI citations all run on it.

Frequently asked questions
What is structured data?
Machine-readable markup that declares what your page content means: who you are, where you are, what a product costs, and what questions your FAQ answers. It is how search engines and AI crawlers parse your facts without guessing.
Which schema types does an Irish business need?
Organization on the homepage, LocalBusiness on contact and location pages, Product with Offer on product pages, FAQPage where you answer questions, Article on blog posts, and BreadcrumbList site-wide.
How do I add schema to my site?
As JSON-LD script blocks in the page head or body. Most sites can cover 90 percent of needs with hand-written JSON-LD or a small plugin, validated with Google's Rich Results Test.
Does schema improve Google rankings?
Schema enables rich results, which improve click-through, and it removes ambiguity for search engines and AI crawlers. It is a prerequisite for visibility, not a magic ranking button.
Does schema help with AI citations?
Yes. AI engines parse structured data to extract facts about your business, products, and prices. A site with clean schema is materially easier for a model to cite accurately.
How do I check if my schema is valid?
Paste any URL into Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator. Fix errors until the output is clean, and recheck after every major site change.
